ULSTER COUNTY

Until recently, Ulster County, 75 miles up the Hudson River from New York City, was a fairly well-kept secret. However, the county has enjoyed publicity as the 'new' destination for New York City residents looking for an affordable second home, or a weekend in the country. The County's lakes, trout streams, and Shawagunk Mountains create a beautiful natural setting, as well as recreational opportunities from rock-climbing to kayaking.

The county is also enjoying a period of economic growth, with unemployment at an all-time low. High-tech, environmentally friendly companies are increasingly attracted to the area because of its beauty, skilled workforce, and affordable taxes. The State University of New York at New Paltz provides a wide range of academic and cultural opportunities to its students and the community at-large. Several other institutions of higher learning are within a one-half hour drive.

The area also boasts the highest per capita of artists of nearly any county in the country, who have brought an abundance of galleries, theaters, and other cultural events to Ulster County. The County's natural scenery and recreational opportunities, coupled with its array of cultural events, also serves to attract significant tourism to the area.

A wide range of motorists: local residents, second-home owners, and tourists alike, are impacted by Highway Displays outdoor advertising in Ulster County. In addition, the New York State Thruway, the State's primary North-South highway, runs from New York City, and through Ulster County. Thousands of vehicles travel this highway daily en route to other destinations. The other primary areas where Highway Displays maintains billboards are:

Ellenville
Esopus
Gardiner
Highland
Kerhonksen
Marlboro
Milton
New Paltz
